TATV interviewed Türkkaya Ataöv, Professor Emeritus of International Relations at Ankara University, in our Fairfax Public Access Studio, during his Washington DC visit as part of a series of conferences in the United States and Canada. Prof. Ataöv shared his memories of his American education and provided guidance how to deal with the stereotypes Turkish Americans still face nowadays. Prof. Ataöv also gave insights into seemingly related but uniquely original concepts such as Turks, Turkey, and “Turkishness” in a global context. Program host was Erju Ackman.

A Rock Music Star: Demir Demirkan

TATV interviewed Demir Demirkan, a rock musician, composer, and song-writer, in our Fairfax Public Access Studio, during his trip the U.S. to finish his new album. In a cozy conversation, Demirkan told Goksin Carey about his life, his plans for moving to the U.S., and his and Sertab Erener's new project called "Painted on Water", a world music and jazz/blues/rock fusion. Demir Demirkan and Sertab Erener are also the composers of "Every Way That I Can", the winning song at the 2003 Eurovison Contest. The program includes two fine samples of Demir's most recent rock music video clips.

The episode ends with the third part of “Living Treasure”, a documentary about the biodiversity in Turkey, presenting splendid images from nature that will make you wish to visit Turkey any season of the year.

TATV starts airing this special show on the weekend of Valentine’s Day. Our studio guest Goknur Olguner tells our viewers the highlight of her wedding photography career and her paintings. Goknur is also a resident artist at Torpido Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia.

The program continues with a modern dance show choreographed by Nejla Yatkin and performed by her talented dancers in Washington DC streets, surprising and delighting the passersby. Prof. Fraser C. Henderson Sr. is our studio guest in this episode of Turkish-American Hour. Interviewed by Goksin Carey, Prof. Henderson Sr. talked about Cyberknife, one of the latest neurosurgery technologies used for patient treatment. He also shared his experiences with extraordinary medical cases.

Prof. Henderson Sr. have an ancestor who was commissioned by the Ottoman Sultan to watch the fall of Sevastapol towards the end of Crimean War in 1850s. Edward Money who is the great great grandfather of Dr. Henderson Sr. wrote his memoirs in his book "Twelve Months with the Bashi-Bazouks" which can be downloaded from Google Books. TASSA’s mission is to promote educational, scientific and technological cooperation between the USA and Turkey and to facilitate the advancement of science in Turkey and the USA through scientific exchange, educational programs and increased networking.
The program includes scenes from the Third Annual Conference of TASSA which was held at Yale University in March 2007. Dr. Semahat Demir interviewed with higher education leaders from USA and Turkey, on behalf of Turkish-American TV during the conference. In this episode, we are also pleased to present an original TATV mini-documentary, directed by Ibrahim Turk, in memory of Prof. Dr. Erdal Inonu. Prof. Inonu was an honorary member of TASSA.
