A Roundtable Discusion on Census 2010

The Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) and U.S. Census Bureau signed a partnership agreement on September 29, 2009 to count the number of Turks nationwide in the 2010 Census.


In this Turkish-American Hour program, three guests join Host Erju Ackman not only to discuss this census that happens once in every ten years, but also to focus on the importance of Turkish American representation. The roundtable participants are Nesreen Khashan, Partnership Specialist, United States Census Bureau, Helen Hatab Samhan, Executive Director the Arab American Institute Foundation, and Gunay Evinch, President, Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA).

The Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) is promoting the “Say Turk Campaign” as part of the agreement with United States Census Bureau. In this episode, viewers will get first-hand information about the national campaign to count people of Turkish and Turkic heritage throughout America.

Turkish-American Hour airs the second and last part of the documentary film “Apostle Paul and the Earliest Churches” in the spirit of Christmas for the interest of our community in Greater Washington D.C. area. Anatolia, known as the cradle of civilizations, has many historic sites significant to Christianity. This documentary film reenacts the life of Apostle Paul, one of the most powerful figures of the Christian faith, and his missionary journeys on Anatolian soil (modern Turkey). 3D animated maps and footage of Antioch, Ephesus, Tarsus, and other cities important to the Apostle Paul’s ministry enhance the archaeological relevance of the film. The program ends with Mercan Dede's music video clip "Istanbul" from his album "800" (courtesy of doublemoon records). Mercan Dede successfully synthesizes Sufi music with modern instruments and digital tunes. Animated with photos from Istanbul, this video exemplifies his unique music style.

Turkish-American TV has provided you with much enjoyed health programs during its previous season. As we celebrate the beginning of our fifth year of broadcasting, we are hosting a young successful Turkish-American cardiologist. Dr. Baran Kilical is a specialist in the field of Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology. While he provides us with general knowledge about heart health, he further concentrates on how heart rhythm disorders negatively effects our quality of life. He informs us regarding the latest developments about the diagnosis and treatment of this condition. Dr. Kilical is practicing at Washington Heart Rhythm Associates.

The program continues with the fourth part of “Living Treasure”, a documentary about the biodiversity in Turkey, presenting splendid images from nature that will make you wish to visit Turkey any season of the year.

Program ends with a short documentary about beautifully handcrafted dolls from Gaziantep, Turkey. This episode of "Handmade" series is brought to you by special arrangements with Turkish Radio Television (TRT).
